The reading of Eicha

On the ninth of Av, we read the scroll of Eicha (Lamentation) on the night and in the morning. Text (PDF) at the bottom of this page. Free to download and share.

If one doesn’t have access to live reading, they can read from the text we provide here, and or watch and follow the Reading from the videos below.

The Ninth of Av – Remember the pain, expect the Light

This page was scheduled to be published when the fast begins in Jerusalem, Israel.

The ninth of Av is a day of fasting, remembering the destruction of the two Holy Temples.
During this day, we avoid any comfort or pleasure.
We sit on the floor but not directly on the ground or bare floor. We need a separation between us and the floor. A carpet, a pillow, or a low stool would be okay to separate us from direct contact with the floor that has aspects of the judgment. After mid-day (according to the Hebrew clock), we rise and sit as usual.

“Judah is gone into exile because of affliction, and because of great servitude; she dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest; all her pursuers overtook her within the straits

Rabbi Yehuda Halevi Ashlag -Baal Hasulam

Our Zohar studies are based on the Zohar commentary, "Hasulam" by Rabbi Ashlag of blessed memory

Rav Ashlag was the greatest kabbalist of the past century. Known as Hasulam (the ladder), he was not only the first to translate the Zohar from Aramaic to Hebrew but he wrote volumes of explanations as well and could have written hundreds more by his own account had he had the financial means to cover the pens and paper…
